State Patrol investigating SR 43 fatal crash

Ohio State Highway Patrol officials have not released the name of the person killed in a fatal crash on SR 43 near the Carroll-Jefferson County line Thursday afternoon.

A press release issued by the New Philadelphia Post said the accident occurred near mile post 1 in Loudon Twpat 3:39 p.m.

According to the release, the deceased driver was southbound on SR 43 and drove left of center, side-swiping another vehicle, which was northbound on SR 43. The northbound vehicle sent off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch. The southbound vehicle then struck another northbound vehicle.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by an official with the Carroll County Coroner’s office.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were treated at the scene and released.

The crash remains under investigation.
