Speelman wins 145-lb. title, Lions take home four champion titles

Carrollton junior Domanick Speelman wrestled his way to a first place finish at the America’s Best Value Inn Tournament Dec. 29 at St. Clairsville.

The Warriors placed fourth overall out of 12 teams.

Speelman (145 lbs.) recorded seven takedowns and two pins (1:48 and 32 seconds) on his way to an undefeated day.

Freshman Kolten Barker (106 lbs.) placed second, landing four takedowns and one pin (1:45).

Levi Pidgeon (120 lbs.), a freshman, and Evan Lewis (160 lbs.), a senior, placed third. Lewis landed three pins, including one in 15 seconds. His was the fastest pin of day by the team and allowed Lewis to join the Under 20 Club. His other pins were 1:29 and 1:34.

Several wrestlers placed fourth, including senior Nick Jones (220 lbs.); sophomore Ben Zinda (195 lbs.) and freshmen, Josh Carman (113 lbs.) and Brandon Carman (152 lbs.).

Jones pinned his opponents in 39 seconds and 3:38. Zinda pinned three opponents in 3:07, 1:58 and 1:06. Both Carman wrestlers scored seven takedowns each.

Freshman Ryan Kiko (126 lbs.) placed fifth and added two pins (1:42 and 1:20) to his resume.

Spencer Grindstaff (170 lbs.) placed sixth and earned two pins, 1:02 and 2:35.

The top five teams included Barnesville, St. Clairsville, West Holmes, Carrollton and Minerva.

Placing first for Minerva were Jacob Norris (126 lbs.), Garrett Hilliard (182 lbs.), Kaiden Haines (195 lbs.) and Jarrett Burress (285 lbs.).
