Edison Jr. High School musicians will celebrate the sounds of the season during a Christmas concert on Dec. 14.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the curtain rises in the auditorium at 7 p.m., where audience members can enjoy a bevy of holiday tunes by the seventh- and eighth-grade bands and junior high jazz band. The event is by donation only and proceeds will help purchase music and instruments for the program.

Band Director Marc Sansone said a total of 50 students will participate and the song list includes an array of classic, cultural and up-tempo tunes. The seventh-grade band will perform “Christmastime is Here,” “Three Carols for Christmas” and “A Minor Christmas Celebration,” which includes several familiar melodies in the style of filmmaker Tim Burton, while the eighth-grade band will play renditions of “Sleigh Ride,” “Swinging on the Housetop” and the “African Bell Carol,” which is a twist on the popular Ukrainian Bell Carol. The jazz band will also perform “Now Rock Ye Merry Gentleman,” an upbeat version of the holiday classic.
