Spring cleaning is a larger-than-life project when it takes place in a spacious home like the Fighting McCook’s House in Carrollton.

For one thing, Curator Kathy Horn noted, interior walls in a Colonial or Victorian mansion are over 10 ft. high! Since electricity for fans or air conditioners was not yet available, high walls were fashioned to encourage hot air to rise and cool air to remain below.

“Once the spruce up process is complete – accessories will be added throughout for our first exhibit of the season: shoes, purses, hankies, hats, lingerie, etc.,” Horn said.

The 2022 season commences Memorial Day weekend, Friday and Saturday, May 27 and 28. Hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tours $3 for adults, and $2 for children. Group tours may be scheduled for a weekend or weekday by calling 330-627-3345 on Fridays and Saturdays, or 330-437-9715 during the week.

The McCook House  is located at the top of Public Square in Carrollton.
