Malvern sixth grade student wins spelling bee

Sixth-grader Zoe Sikorsky was crowned champion of the Malvern Middle School Spelling Bee at Brown Local Schools. 

She spelled the word “generation” correctly to capture the win. Gavin Peddicord placed second and Elijah Heropulos earned third place. 

Other participants included sixth graders, Addison Mitchell, Amber Gray, Vivianne Poole and Jacob McClelland; seventh graders Jared Witherow, Lauren Brown, Van Foley and Ian Morrow; and eighth graders, Ethan Pistory, Alyssa Boni, Bella Evans, Grace Castellucci, Nate Martin, Logan West, Kathryn Poole, Philip ElFaye and Austin Kruty.

Judges were Timothy Babiczuk, high school/ middle school principal; Danielle Hawk, elementary principal; and Cailin Wade, Malvern National Honor Society president. Brooke Marinucci, high school English teacher, was the pronouncer for the bee.

Irishe Spurgeon, middle school Language Arts teacher, was district spelling bee coordinator.
