A Malvern man is in the Carroll County Jail after he presumably stole a vehicle.
Jamie P. Beavers, 41, of 403 Pleasant Ave., Malvern, was taken into custody at his home May 22 at 8 a.m. by Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies, who were assisted by members of the US Marshall Service.
Around 9:30 a.m. May 19, Ashley Shifflet of Canton, parked her white 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe at Daystar in Malvern. She left the vehicle running while she went inside the business. When she returned, her vehicle was missing.
Shifflet contacted the company with the GPS tracking and deputies noted the vehicle was in Canton and went to the Walmart Supercenter in Massillon. Massillon Police located the vehicle and began a pursuit. It was abandoned when the driver attempted to strike a police vehicle. The GPS location was lost at that time.
Deputies then attempted to “ping” Shifflet’s phone, which was left inside the vehicle. It indicated the phone was on Harrison Ave. in Canton. After refreshing the GPS system, the car was tracked and found parked in an alley between Hilltop Learning Center and Malvern United Methodist Church in Malvern. Deputies located the Hyundai and Shifflet identified it as hers.
While viewing security camera footage from the area, deputies saw a male exit the driver’s seat of vehicle wearing a blue Under Armor hoodie. The man walked toward Wood St. and in between the church and a residence.
While at Beaver’s home, a blue Under Armor hoodie was recovered and evidence gathered from the vehicle.
