Carrollton
The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce is heading up a Shop Small Week promotion to kick off the holiday season Nov. 25-30.
“We are thrilled to bring back our annual shop small week,” said Chelsa Slutz, director of the Chamber of Commerce. “Shop small encourages the community to shop small and local. This initiative highlights the importance of local businesses & promotes our local economy. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, offering unique gifts and products, creates jobs and fosters community spirit. This event is our way to show support for those local businesses. So, get out there and shop and support local businesses!”
Area businesses which signed up to be part of the event, will stamp forms called “passports” for customers who visit the business from Nov. 25-30.
Passport forms can be picked up from the Chamber office, located at 30 S. Lisbon St., Carrollton, beginning Nov. 20. A majority of participating merchants also have passports. Customers who return the passport to the chamber office by 4 p.m. Dec. 1 will be entered into a drawing for the Community Christmas basket. The basket is comprised from items donated by the participating merchants. Each passport stamp equals one ticket into the drawing.
The drawing will be held Dec. 2.
The winner will be notified by phone.
Minerva
On Nov. 30, Minerva will celebrate Small Business Saturday, a day dedicated to the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and ensure that communities stay strong and vibrant.
On that day, a wide variety of businesses throughout the village will be offering discounts, giveaways, door prizes, activities, and more. A map of all participating businesses, their hours, and special offers will be available at the businesses and on the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. The first customer at each location will receive a goody bag filled with information and treats.
Participating businesses include Grinders Above & Beyond, Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio ReStore, Salute Banquet Hall, Kishman’s IGA, Sandy Springs Brewing Company, Great Trail Golf Course, Walker’s Café, Rae’s Jewelry, Market Street Art Spot, Minerva Music Center, Que Pasa, The Komfort Zone, Tropical Paradise Pet Store, Vintage Home by IlluminArt, Market Street Mercantile, Minerva Perk, Witchy Ways, Crosspoint Barber Shop, Simply Scarves & Such, The Clever Cookie & Creamery, Art on 30 Gallery & Gift Shop, The Mystical Hollow, Chic Haven Boutique, John’s Bakery & Café and Minerva Public Library.
Anyone visiting at least six of the participating businesses, getting the map stamped or signed between Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, and returning it to the Minerva Chamber office by Dec. 13 will be entered into a drawing for gift baskets donated by Real Integrity Real Estate Services Agent Brandy Berry and Christina at Crosspoint Barber Shop and gift cards donated by John’s Bakery & Café.
Patronizing local shops and restaurants, as well as doing business with local financial institutions, farmers and home-based businesses benefit the community in many ways. A greater share of dollars spent in locally owned businesses stays in the local economy – as much as three times more than dollars spent in chain outlets.
Small businesses create local jobs, give Minerva its unique character and build a sense of community. Minerva’s business owners play a huge role in the community’s quality of life, supporting schools, athletics, organizations, events and those in need through fundraisers and donations. They often “do the right thing” even if it does not maximize profit.
