Catherine Shepherd and John Birong

John Birong and Catherine Shepherd were named Carrollton High School February Students of the Month.
He is the son of Dr. Tom and JC Birong of Carrollton. He has two brothers and two sisters. One brother is a 16 year old sophomore, the other is 20 years old and a sophomore in college. One sister is a 24 year old sophomore in dental school and the other is a 22 year old graduate from college.
John is involved in golf, basketball and baseball.
Hobbies include playing his brother in chess and mostly any physical activities.
His career plans are to attend Franciscan University to acquire pre-requisites for chiropractic school where he will study to become a doctor.
John revealed what family member has influenced him. “My Papa Birong has taught me that good deeds go a long way when it comes to helping others and that I should help as many people as I am able to for as long as I can.”
The best advice he can give for success in life is “Instead of focusing on what could or should have happened we should put that behind us, learn from it, and work hard so that situation never happens again.”
Catherine Shepherd is the daughter of Scott Shepherd and Vanessa West and Steve West, and is from Amsterdam. She has a 20 year old brother named Josh who is in college and a 23 year old sister named Morgan.
Catherine is involved in soccer and hobbies include art, sports and traveling with family and friends.
She plans on attending The University of Akron for exercise science to become a physical therapist.
Who is a big influence on her? “All of my teachers, coaches, family members and friends have helped me a lot to get me where I am today.”
What advice can she give for success in life? “Don’t get in your head too much.”
