At 67-years of age, for many seniors the word RETIREMENT would be at top of their “to-do” list and in capital letters.

Not so for Jack Leggett.

The lifelong Carroll County resident is going full speed ahead with his barber career, but in a new location.

“We decided to downsize,” explained Leggett. “We closed the shop on Carrollton St. in Malvern and sold the property last November. I couldn’t find any place to rent so the shop remained closed.”

As luck, or fate, would have it, Leggett came upon a property located at 9168 Avalon Rd. NW., just north of Malvern. The property was formerly owned by the late Dale Gallaher, who was a barber/stylist.

“It was all set up. All I had to do was flip the light switch,” Leggett said from his new shop last week.

As of last month, Leggett is back in business at the new location. “I’m excited to see my old customers,” he admitted, adding that in August 2021 he will celebrate 51 years in business.

At one time, Leggett owned five shops. He began his career in Brunswick after completing school at Cleveland State Barber College.

“I’ve had shops in Dover and New Philadelphia along with Malvern,” he said.

Many locals know Jack through his involvement with the Malvern community. He served as a member of village council and was a member of the former Board of Public Affairs. In recent years, he’s chaired and organized the Dancing on the Bridge Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show. He enjoys being with people and conducts flea markets. He also volunteers at the Malvern Care Center.

The Leggett family includes his wife, Rachel, four sons and eight grandchildren.

Hours at Leggett’s Barber Shop are by appointment and masks are required per COVID-19 requirements. Appointments can be made by calling 330-575-9668.
