Hutchison joins 1,000-point club in win over Crusaders

Derk Hutchison is the second Malvern Hornet to join the 1,000-point club this season.

The senior reached the honor early in a Jan. 23 contest with Steubenville Central Catholic. He joins teammate Johnny Browning, who reached the milestone earlier this season and is the 22nd player in school history to surpass 1,000 points in his high school career.

“Congratulations to Derk. It is quite an accomplishment,” noted Malvern Coach Dennis Tucci following the game.

Hutchison scored 13 points in the game as Malvern posted a 65-45 win over the Crusaders. Browning scored 18 points in the contest and Michael Minor added 17, for the winners who led 14-5 after one quarter, 37-14 at half and 48-30 heading into the final eight minutes.
