Hornets pick up IVC win over TCC

Hornet Johnny Walker safely slides across home plate ahead of a tag from the Sandy Valley pitcher to score Malvern's first run of the contest.

The Malvern Hornets baseball team defeated Tuscarawas Central Catholic 8-1 at home April 19.

Top hitters for the Hornets included Ethan Bush with three singles and three runs; Noah Ball, two doubles and two RBI’s; Adam Moser, three singles and Connor Lefevre, two singles.

The Hornets scored one run in the first and fifth innings and two runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings.

Derk Hutchison was the winning pitcher allowing two hits in seven innings. Jacob Renicker was the losing pitcher.

 Sandy Valley

The Hornets hosted the Cardinals April 20 for an Inter Valley Conference (IVC) matchup. The Cardinals won 11-4 and were led by Brady Russell, who went 3-4 with a triple, three runs scored and stole three bases.

Payton Davis had the Hornets only hit. Ethan Bush, Hutchison, Johnny Walker  and Manny Walker scored runs.

According to Head Coach Denny Tucci, Davis was the losing pitcher although he had a good outing. He pitched five innings and only gave up two earned runs. He struck out five and only walked one.
