Minerva’s traditional Downtown Wonderland event has transformed this year into December Wonderland – a month’s worth of family holiday events and activities!

Santa and friends will bring the parade to the people Saturday, Dec. 5, beginning at noon. The North Pole Fire Department will drive Santa through neighborhoods and parking areas within the village. The map of his route will be published on the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page, and anyone not living along the route is welcome to park in the Minerva Elementary School or Minerva High School parking lots, which Santa will visit.

Throughout the rest of the month, there will be a wide variety of events and activities happening at various locations around town. A complete calendar will be published on the Chamber’s Facebook page, or is available by calling 330-868-7979 or emailing [email protected].

Happenings include: Free handknit scarves on downtown lampposts every Saturday before Christmas, provided by the Presbyterian Women and Simply Scarves . . . and Such; a new Christmas make-and-take craft kit to pick up each week at Minerva Public Library; a coloring contest; a virtual Christmas storytime every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. on the Minerva Public Library Facebook page; live Christmas music provided by the Minerva High School band and Minerva Community Band in various locations; take-home cookie-decorating kits at Kishman’s IGA; a drive-by live Nativity in Municipal Park on Dec. 12 provided by Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church; and much more!

Additionally, many businesses and other locations will offer backdrops where families can take holiday photos throughout the month. These will be located at: Loudon Motors Ford, MyMusic Studio, IlluminArt Lamp Shoppe, the Market Street Art Spot, Minerva Public Library, the Roxy Theatre, the Big Chair in the Verizon parking lot, and 706 Elizabeth St. at Santa’s mailbox.

Minerva is pleased to announce its first-ever “Like Your Lights!” Drive-it-Yourself Christmas Lights Tour beginning Saturday, Dec. 5.

Participating homes are: 9346 Linden Rd. NW, 403 W. McKinley Ave., 706 Elizabeth St., 608 W. Line St., 307 W. High St., 315 Jackson St., 303 Wine St., 840 Lynnwood Dr., 924 Lynnwood Dr., 707 E. Lincoln Way, 1012 E. First St., 11786 Walker Rd., and 22968 Virginia Ave.

Everyone is invited to enjoy the displays of holiday lights and decorations at these homes and encouraged to roll down their windows and shout, “Like your lights!” for their favorites.
