Girl Scout Samantha Heider is hosting a Harvest Moon Festival in Dellroy Sept. 8 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. as her Gold Project.

Local businesses, farms, artists, vendors as well as a children’s area and face painting are expected to participate in the event, to be held in the Dellroy Community Center.

Heider is a junior founder of the Atwood Lake Community Development Corporation which is a 501C3 organization.

“I thought a festival would be really fun,” said Heider. “The Atwood Lake Community Development Corp. has the goal of supporting the growth of local businesses and to bring more trails and handicapped access to everything. We also want to make it known that community, health, exercise and nutrition help people live longer and happier.”

Heider, 17, is a member of Troop 91229 in Medina. She spends a lot of time in the Carroll County area in the summers and has an acquaintance who moved to the area.

“I know being in the girl scouts impacted me so much through my friends and leader,” said Heider. “I used to never speak to people and was really shy. It gave me a voice and a sisterhood. I’m an active community member now and before I didn’t know how to interact. Now I can go out and socialize.”

She said her girl scout group disbanded, and she became ambassador going to other group meetings and being a role model for the younger girls. “Small businesses are very important to the community, and it takes a lot to stay open,” said Heider. “They suffered a lot during COVID and we would like to see them thrive.”
