Fiery crash claims life of Carrollton woman

A Carrollton woman became the fourth person to die on Carroll County highways in the past two weeks.

Samantha Colosimo, 54, of Carrollton, died April 22 in Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital from injuries she sustained in an accident earlier in the day.

According to a report filed by sheriff deputies, Colosimo was a passenger in a Nissan Sentra driven by Rick Pasiuk, 47, of Carrollton. Pasiuk was driving the Sentra southeast on SR 171 at approximately 10:23 a.m. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire about 292 feet west of the intersection of Avalon Rd.

Matt Shafer, a member of Carrollton village Fire Department, and Virgil Slabaugh, a fireman in Green who lives in Carrollton, were among the first on-scene and pulled the victims from the burning vehicle. The two provided aid for the victims until emergency personnel arrived and  firefighters extinguished the blaze . Carrollton Village was the first firetruck to arrive on scene. Mohawk Valley and Great Trail fire departments provided assistance, along with R&M Towing and EMT Ambulance.

Pasiuk was transported to Aultman Hospital, where he remained Sunday.

The accident remains under investigation.

Three people died in a two-car accident April 10 on SR 542 west of Dellroy.
