Two communities are planning community events this weekend.

The Dellroy Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its homecoming Aug. 9 and 10 and Scio it hosting the annual   Summer Fest Aug. 7-10.

The homeoming kicks off  Aug. 9 when the eat stand opens at 4 p.m. on N.Ohio St.

Kids events will be open between 4 and 10 p.m. Rides will be closed during the parade. Cost is  $10 for a wristband. 

Parade line begins at 5:30 p.m. and begins at 7 p.m.

A vehicle extrication demonstration by the fire department is scheduled to begin following the parade. Those wishing to “take a swing” at the demo vehicle may do so for a $2 donation, according to organizers.

DJ Rick Huffman will spin tunes (and offer karaoke) from   4-11 p.m. Bingo begins after the parade in the firehouse. Pedal tractor pull sign-ups are before the parade and the pull will be held on the midway after the parade. 

A display of the history of the homecoming will be set up in the commuinity building both days.

On Saturday, the eat stand is open 2-11 p.m., rides are 2-11 p.m. Wristbands are $10. A motorcycle and car Show begins at  4 p.m. Entry fee is $10 per vehicle. 

J Rick Huffman and Karaoke is 4-11 p.m. Bingo starts at 5 p.m. A gift basket and 50/50 raffle will be ongoing with winners announced at 9 p.m.

Scio Homecoming 

The 90th Annual Scio Summer Fest will be held Aug. 7-10, at the Firehouse parking lot and old school lot, with numerous events and entertainment for all ages to enjoy. 

The festival kicks off Wednesday, Aug. 7th with the 31st annual Kids 1 Mile Fun Run/Family Fun Walk and the 39th Annual Scio Scramble 5K Race/Walk. Register online at runsignup.com, or mail in form. After the races the evening will continue with Dance Music by “Twice As Nice” at the Main Stage at 7 p.m. 

On Thursday, Aug. 8, Harrison Central HS, Jr. High and Biddy Cheerleaders will perform at 6 p.m. Also, at 6 p.m. is a Cornhole Tournament. The “Hard to Tell Band” will be playing Classic and Modern Country hits at the Main Stage at 7:30 p.m. 

On Friday, Aug. 9, the 90th annual Scio Summer Fest Grand Parade, will start at 6:30 p.m. The parade route has changed back to the old route, with lineup starting at the old Scio Pottery and American Legion (Crimm Road). After the Parade, “Moonlyterz”, playing Classic Rock, Country & Oldies Music, will be at the Main Stage at 8pm. 

Saturday August 10, will start with the 39th Annual Scio Show and Shine, held at Scio Community Park. At noon, The New Towne Cloggers will perform at the Main Stage. The 28th annual Arm-Wrestling Contest will be held behind the Firehouse at 12:30 p.m. , the 8th annual Pet Show at 1 p.m., Karaoke Contest at 2 p.m., Great Conotton Creek Duck Race at 2 p.m. Cornhole Tournament behind the Firehouse, starting at 6 p.m. Festival Royalty will be crowned at 6:30 p.m with the Merchant’s Drawing at 6:45pm. The “Easy Street Band, WV”, playing Dance Variety music will take the Main Stage at 7 p.m. for the remainder of the evening.

The Flower and Garden Show will be on display along with Legion Bingo inside the Firehouse. The Scio Museum will be open for viewing of Scio Pottery, Scio Memorabilia, Scio High School and Jewett-Scio High School Memorabilia, Saturday Aug. 12th, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Bird Nerds with Exotic Birds and Animals will be joining us again this year.

 Movin’ & Groovin’ will be providing inflatables and kiddie rides during the Festival, $12 for Wristbands and Saturday will be an all-day admission for $12. “We look forward to another successful year and would like to thank the local businesses and organizations for their continued support,” said Chairman J.T.
