East Twp. man dies in house fire

Firefighters from four area departments battled a fire at a fatal fire on Memorial Rd. early Sunday morning.

Fox and Augusta fire departments assisted Hanover Township (Columbiana County) Fire Department at the scene of a fatal house fire in the early morning hours of Feb. 5.
Hanover Township was toned at approximately 5:30 a.m. for a structure fire at 8516 Memorial Rd., NE, Kensington.
Upon arrival, they found the single-story home fully engulfed in flames with a person trapped inside the 28×56 modular home, located in East Twp., Carroll County.
Hanover Twp. Fire Chief Frank Baker said there were four adults and three children living in the home.
Carroll County Coroner Dr. Mandal Haas said Boyd Dean Bland, Jr., his wife and a young child were living in the basement of the home. The woman and young child escaped the burning structure, but Boyd did not. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Haas and his body transported to the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s office for an autopsy.
The state fire marshal arrived at the scene later in the day to investigate. Baker said the cause remains undetermined and the investigation continues.
The American Red Cross was called to assist the survivors.
Franklin Twp. and Winona Fire Department also assisted at the scene along with EMT Ambulance and Maple-Cotton.
