Dellroy celebrates 75th homecoming with grand parade

Fifty units traveled the parade route through the village of Dellroy Aug. 9 for the Dellroy Volunteer Fire Department’s 75th annual homecoming parade.

The grand parade included floats, antique cars and tractors, antique vehicles, political units, a horse unit and several fire trucks along with the grand marshal and citizen of the year, both longtime village residents.

A color guard comprised of the Dellroy American Legion Post, led the parade.

Former mayor Joe Mabie was the grand marshal. Tom Hoffman, a village employee and active volunteer in the village, was recognized as the citizen of the year. 

The homecoming included two days of events, including a car show, extracation demonstration and pedal tractor pull. Community Hall hosted historical information on the homecoming. 

Parade judges Ron Dinger of Augusta Volunteer Fire Dept, Tom Messer, Carrollton Village Fire Department, and Jeff Lucas of Carrollton selected the following winners:

Best Appearing Pumper: East Sparta VFD.

Best Appearing Tanker: Leesville VFD.

Best Appearing Brush/ Utility/Rescue Vehicle: Carrollton Village FD.

Best Appearing Emergency Squad: Regional EMS 3512.

Oldest Truck in Service: Sherrodsville Volunteer Fire Dept., Inc.

Furthest Distance Traveled: Loudon Twp. VFD.

Best Appearing Marching Unit: American Legion Color Guard.

Best Appearing Float: Home Away From Home Daycare.

Best Appearing Antique Car or Tractor: Brian McIntire of Leavittsville with a 1930 Model A truck.

Best Appearing Children’s Entry: Autism Awareness.

Judge’s Choice: Rescue 343-2, 911Memorial.
