Carrollton Council announced the village is accepting letters of intent to fill a vacant council seat during the Aug. 8 meeting.

Letters must be received by Aug. 19 at noon. They can be dropped off at the Municipal Building on 2nd St. NE or emailed to [email protected]. The vacant seat is that of the late Tom Parker. Council has 30 days to fill the seat and will make a decision at the Aug. 22 meeting.

Council also accepted the resignation of Police Officer Courtney Zanders effective Aug. 16. Regarding the resignation, council set a finance committee meeting to discuss establishing a pay scale for police officers.

Mayor Stoneman noted the village lost a new guy and could lose a couple more, saying they need to know when they will get their next raise.

Visitor Dan Leggett asked if council could create a contract because the village pays for their training and then the officers leave village employment. He questioned whether they could stay until they have worked off their training. Leggett noted he is worried the village keeps spending money on training new officers.
