CCM Staff Report

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an accident that claimed the life of a Conotton Valley student and seriously injured another Feb. 16.

According to Sheriff Dale Williams, Braylen Novak was killed in the crash, which occurred at about 2:21 p.m. on SR 212 between Sherrodsville and the high school.  Novak, who was the driver of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Dr. Mandal Haas. The 18-year-old was a senior at Conotton Valley.

A passenger in the vehicle, Garson Imes, also a senior, was seriously injured and taken to a Canton hospital and then transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to both families as they deal with this,” said Conotton Valley Superintendent Todd Herman. “It’s been a shock and we are praying for the families. Braylen was a great kid, good leader and well-respected by the student body, as is Garson.”

Several schools reached out to Conotton Valley and sent counselors to the school today. Counselors are also available for students to speak with at Buckeye Career Center.

All extra-curricular activities at Conotton Valley are cancelled today and tomorrow.
