Minerva junior headed to state cross country meet

Minerva junior Connor Shingleton is the lone area cross country runner to qualify for the state meet this Saturday at Fortress Obetz near Columbus.

Shingleton qualified by placing 11th in the regional meet Oct. 31 at Pickerington with a time of 16:52.4. The top 28 runners qualified for the state meet along with the top seven teams. The Lions placed 16th in the team standings at the regional meet with 350 points.

“We are so excited for Connor! He had his best race of the season. He had a heartbreaker last year by placing 29th and missed qualifying by one spot. Connor is hard working and such a competitor. We can’t wait to see him run on the big stage!” said Coach Olivia Scott.

“Unfortunately our boys team ended their season, but we are so excited about the growth they had this year. We will miss seniors Ben Brady & Jacob Wollman. They have been great leaders this year!”

Other Lions who earned team points include: sophomore Brandon Davis 75th (18:11.4); senior Ben Brady 101st (18:30.8); freshman Connor Norris 120th (18:53.2); and freshman Owen Grubb 131st (19:14.7). Freshman Mason Steele 147th and senior Jacob Wollman 156th also competed.
