The Clever Cookie & Creamery celebrated its grand opening on July 20, with a ribbon cutting, giveaways, door prizes and special cheesecake releases throughout the day.
Jennifer and Marvin Jackson began their business in 2019 as the Flour Box Bakery, a home bakery selling through craft shows. During the pandemic, they baked and gave away more than 700 loaves of bread, and in 2021 they opened a roadside stand stocked with a variety of baked good.
In August 2023, the Jacksons bought a building in Minerva’s downtown, gutted it, and completely renovated it, inside and out, officially opening their doors in June.
“We’re always excited when we see local people lay it out there, lay it all on the line because they have a belief,” said Mayor Tim Tarbet before the ribbon cutting. “This is what the village needs. We hope this becomes a destination, just like a lot of our other businesses have become.”
The bakery and ice cream shop offers freshly baked breads by the slice or loaf, cinnamon rolls, brownies, cheesecakes, pepperoni rolls, cookies, basic, filled and gourmet cupcakes, and other baked goods, as well as iced and hot coffee, bottled soda and iced tea. Baker’s Golden Dairy small batch ice cream is available in bowls or homemade waffle cones or in sundaes with homemade toppings.
The Clever Cookie & Creamery also offers a lunch menu with homemade egg or chicken salad, roast beef spread and pulled pork sandwiches on the customer’s choice of breads.
“We truly have been blessed,” said Marvin to those gathered for the ribbon cutting. “We were nervous for a long time, but as soon as we opened up you guys really poured yourselves into our business, and we appreciate that. Thank you very much.”
The Clever Cookie & Creamery is located at 101 E. Line St., Minerva and can be reached at 330-868-3100. It is open Tuesday- Saturday, 11 a.m.- 9 p.m., and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.
