Area delegates head to boys, girls state

Area delegates for the 2022 session of Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State will attend the event beginning Sunday. 

Buckeye Boys state is sponsored by the American Legion and will be held June 12-19 at Miami University in Oxford.

Buckeye Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary of Ohio and will take place June 12-18 at the University of Mount Union in Alliance. 

Buckeye Boys State, which began in 1936, is the largest program in the country with more than 1,200 delegates attending each year. There, boys gain hands-on experience about operating a democratic form of government, the organization of political parties and their roles in shaping state government. Buckeye Girls State is designed to educate young women on the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of good citizenship.

Carrollton

Boys state delegates are Brody Moore, sponsored by Dellroy American Legion Post 475 and Colton Moore and John Pesta, sponsored by Carrollton American Legion Post 428. Alternates are Austin Kirchbaum and Collin Meek. 

Girls State delegates include Madilynn Baker, Dellroy Post 475 and Makenzie Burgett and Elizabeth Mayle, Carrollton Post 428. 

Along with the American Legion posts, sponsors include Judge John and Melanie Campbell, Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney Steven D. Barnett, McFadden Insurance, Carroll County Women Republicans and James A. Newbold. 

Malvern

Seth Kandel is the Malvern Buckeye Boys State Delegate. He is sponsored by the Malvern American Legion Post 375.
